NEW INFORMATION ABOUT THE POSTAL STATIONERY CARDS OF 1885

Ross Towle

On 20 April, 1885, the American Bank Note Company entered the Ecuador order for 100,000 domestic 2c post cards, and 200,000 UPU 3c post cards.

A die for each value was engraved and then transferred 18 on and then 12 on to form a stone of 30 images.  The cards were lithographed on card stock (22 x 28 inches, 140 lbs)  from Hastings & Todd.

The printing was completed by 16 June 1885 when Ecuador was billed.

The Ecuadorian agent involved was named "Ruiz".
