Recently on E-bay I noticed a guy in spain was trying to sell fake Ecuador 4 reales stamps from 1866 ... for $ 113.98 with a $ 47.34 shipping fee.
Being the resident recognized self-appointed
expert on Ecuador’s imperfect (without perforations) 4 reales stamp, I notified
the seller by E-bay e-mail the stamp he is selling is a known fake copy.
In
response he posted more fake copies at even higher prices in order to show me
he was in charge, and E-bay would do absolutely nothing if I filed a complaint.
This was his mistake! I created a listing on e-bay in auction
format for 10 days selling an 8-1/2 x 11 inch information sheet for $1.00 with
free shipping. The idea was to put the
correct information on E-bay in the same spot where he was selling garbage, so
potential buyers could easily determine what he was offering at ridiculous
prices, was rather pathetic and crude copies of Ecuador’s 4 reales stamp from
1866.
The following offer appears first on E-bay
when you search for 1866 4 Reales Ecuador stamps….and below it are his pathetic
attempts to fool potential buyers. So
far more than 43 potential buyers have viewed my ad, and then they have the
opportunity to view his garbage. This is
a great way to keep the bad guys at bay, or should I say, at E-bay?
